Lyre-tailed Nightjar, mother and chick These birds, relatives of the whip-poor-wills were sleeping on a ledge in a rock quarry. The females and young roost on the ground, but the adult male must roost in trees, because this bird with a body of about 6 to 8 inches carries a tail of about 2 feet in length. |
